Welcome to the Totem Poles of Mountain Home
Driving through Mountain Home, Fairfield, or New Mexico, you may have noticed a totem pole, and wondered who made them and how they ended up where they were .
Joe Fortner, a local carpenter, started making them ten years ago when a large log came into his possession. In total, he has made eighteen poles, all for friends of his. He considers their creation to be a hobby and does not make them to sell.
Joe has been building houses in Mountain Home since 1975. His company, Fortner Construction, specializes in custom homes and buildings. He works with anywhere from a two to five man crew, and no matter what time of the year, they can be found slinging hammers like crazy men. He has a good wife, two great sons, and one grand baby.
